What does the procedure involve?

A proctology consultation at Centrum Medyczne Skopia in Kraków covers the prevention and treatment of diseases of the final section of the gastrointestinal tract — the last 15 centimetres, that is the rectum and the anus.

The most common conditions of this area are haemorrhoids, inflammatory conditions, fistulas, anal fissures and tumours.

Indications

  • rectal pain
  • incontinence of stool and gas
  • itching and burning around the anus
  • damage to the skin around the anus
  • a feeling of incomplete bowel emptying
  • urgency to defecate

Course and preparation

A visit to a proctologist does not require any prior preparation.

The course of the consultation:

  1. medical history
  2. examination in the knee-elbow position or on the side
  3. external inspection of the perianal area and the anus
  4. digital rectal examination — assessment of the sphincters and location of pathological lesions
  5. anoscopy — assessment of the anal canal and the rectal area beyond the sphincters
