Colonoscopy — why it matters and how to prepare

Step by step

How to prepare for the examination?

  1. 01
A few days before the examination

Follow a light diet and limit foods with seeds and grains as well as raw vegetables and fruit. The referring doctor provides detailed dietary recommendations.

  2. 02
    Bowel cleansing

The comfort and effectiveness of the examination depend on proper bowel cleansing with a laxative preparation. The doctor selects the preparation and how to take it — follow the enclosed instructions exactly.

  3. 03
    The day of the examination

Arrive at the scheduled time with your current documentation and a list of medications you take. If the examination is under anaesthesia, arrange to return home accompanied by another person.

  4. 04
    Medications and chronic conditions

Tell the doctor about medications you take (especially blood thinners) and any chronic conditions before the examination. Do not stop any medication on your own — the doctor decides.
